Fiber Optic Cables

The use of fiber optic cable offers options in communications transmission mediums. Fiber optics make a smaller, lighter weight cable with exceptional mechanical flexibility; a cable secure from electro-magnetic interference capable of wider Broadband transmission over remarkably expanded distances with the guarantee of long term upgrade potential.

Fiber optic cables are available for installation everywhere copper cables could go:

  • underground, directly buried, with or without armoring

  • in conduit

  • in environmentally hostile settings; cold, wet, heat, acid, saline

  • aerial installations, lashed or self-supported

  • interior duct work, risers, ceilings, plenums, closets

Indoor Fiber Optic

Multimode and Single Mode
Simplex /Duplex Cables
Ideal for patch cord/pigtail applications. Available in both riser and plenum versions, in bulk lengths, or as pre-cut/pre-terminated assemblies.

Riser Rated
Feature compact, flexible packaging for a wide variety of indoor applications. Tight-buffered multiple application cables are ideal for premise and campus distribution applications, available with up to 156 fibers.

Riser Rated Breakout Cables
Specifically designed for flame retardant/riser requirements. Feature breakout style packaging for building applications requiring many single-channel terminations. Each flame-retardant breakout is color-coded for easy identification. The cable's flexibility and tensile strength allows for easy pulling into crowded, hard-to-reach areas.

Plenum Cables
Feature compact, flexible packaging for a variety of premise and campus applications. Tight-buffered cables are suitable for intra-building point-to-point and distribution runs, available with up to 72 fibers. Small diameter and flexibility provide for easy installation in crowded, difficult-to-access areas. Cables with more than 12 fibers are bundled into subgroups protected with their own flame retardant jackets. This "cable-within-a-cable" design allows for easy identification and cable routing.

Plenum Breakout Cables
For plenum applications requiring many single-channel terminations, this breakout design offers convenience and the protection of individual fibers. Each fiber is individually strengthened and jacketed for direct connectivity. Ideal for indoor plenum and cable tray applications.

RLT Series Riser Indoor/Outdoor Loose Tube Cables
Designed for installation both outdoors and indoors in areas required by the National Electrical Code (NEC) to be riser rated Type OFNR. These cables are loose tube, gel-filled constructions for excellent resistance to moisture. Available with single mode or multimode fibers with up to a maximum of 72 fibers.

Because the outdoor cables are riser rated they eliminate the need for a separate point of demarcation, i.e. splicing to a riser rated cable within 50 feet of the point where the outdoor cable enters the building as required by the NEC.

Outdoor Fiber Optics

Multimode and Single Mode

  • loose tube and tight buffered

  • armored and non-armored

  • self-supporting

Non-Armored Loose Tube Optical Fiber Cable

Loose tube construction insures stable optical performance by protecting the fibers in a loose buffer tube. This design is well suited for interoffice, long haul, high density and distribution applications. The non-armored cable design may be used in duct or aerial applications and is available with a steel or dielectric central strength member (CSM).

Features:

  • The all dielectric design may be used in close proximity to high voltage lines and provides lightning immunity.

  • Fiber counts from 2 to 264 fibers.

  • Reel lengths available up to 12 km without factory splices.

  • Loose buffer tube design. Multiple fibers per tube (6 or 12) minimizes the cable size.

  • Color-coded fibers and buffer tubes allow easy identification.

  • Ripcords for ease of termination.

  • Available with copper pairs.

  • Meets Bellcore and RUS (REA) requirements.

Armored (Single Jacket) Loose Tube Optical Fiber Cable

Loose tube construction insures stable optical performance by protecting the fibers in a loose buffer tube. This design is well suited for interoffice, long haul, high density and distribution applications. The armored cable design may be used in duct, aerial or buried applications and is available with a steel or dielectric central strength member (CSM).

Features:

  • Fiber counts from 2 to 264 fibers.

  • Reel lengths available up to 12 km without factory splices.

  • Loose buffer tube design. Multiple fibers per tube (6 or 12) minimizes the cable size.

  • Color-coded fibers and buffer tubes allow easy identification.

  • Ripcords for ease of termination.

  • Available with copper pairs.

  • Coated armor for corrosion resistance.

  • Meets Bellcore and RUS (REA) requirements.

  • Available with ROL identification.

Armored (Dual Jacket) Loose Tube Optical Fiber Cable

Loose tube construction insures stable optical performance by protecting the fibers in a loose buffer tube. This design is well suited for interoffice, long haul, high density and distribution applications. The dual armored cable design may be used in duct, aerial or buried applications and is available with a steel or dielectric central strength member (CSM).

Alcatel MicroUnitube™ Armored Single Tube Optical Fiber Cable

A smaller version of the Unitube™ product with a maximum  capacity of 12 fibers. Designed to minimize weight and size while incorporating Alcatel’s standard 12 fiber loose buffer tube in the Unitube construction. This cable is well suited for low fiber applications such as customer access to distribution/feeder cables and rural areas.

MicroUnitube™ cable provides easy fiber access and termination and is compatible with both Unitube™ and loose tube cables. Utilizing Alcatel’s standard 12 fiber loose buffer tube allows for easy placement in splice trays and closures and uses existing hardware. The armored cable design may be used in duct, aerial or buried applications and has dual steel strength members located in the sheath of the cable for optimum strength.

Features:

  • Currently available in 2 to 12 fibers.

  • Single loose tube design improves fiber accessibility.

  • Compatible with both Unitube™ and loose tube cable designs.

  • Ideal for drop off requirements and Node or ONU applications.

  • Reel lengths available up to 8 km without factory splices.

  • Corrosion resistant coated armor provides rodent protection.

  • Small size, low weight and increased handle ability.

  • Designed to meet or exceed Bellcore and RUS (REA) requirements.

Alcatel UniRibbon™  Optical Fiber Cable, All-Dielectric & Armored

Alcatel’s UniRibbon™ cable combines large fiber counts with the small cable size and ease of handling of the Unitube™ cable design. Optical fibers are formed into twelve fiber ribbons, which are then stacked to fit up to 216 fibers into small central buffer tube. The UniRibbon™ cable is available in either all dielectric or armored designs.

Features:

  • Color-coded fibers and labeled ribbons allow easy identification.

  • Small diameter and low weight reduces installation costs and extends pull distance in ducts.

  • Small bend radius, flexibility and low weight make UniRibbon™ easy to handle.

  • Meets industry standards for optical, mechanical environmental performance.

  • Available in fiber counts up to 216.

  • Meets Bellcore requirements.

Outdoor Distribution Cables
Standard loose tube designs have a central steel or dielectric strength member around which the gel-filled tubes are wound with Kevlar® and any necessary filler tubes, and an outer polyethylene jacket for maximum weather ability. Optional inner jacket and corrugated steel armor.

  • gel-filled loose tube (tight buffered available)

  • each fiber color coded, each tube color coded

  • as many as 216 fibers may be available

  • non-armored, for aerial (lashed) and conduit or duct installation.

  • armored, for direct earth burial installation
